This book summarized the theoretic and practical researches that have been conducted by the authors over the past 20 years on plants and vegetation types of the valley in Three Gorges area.The data included all the plant species and vegetation types of both sides of the valley below an elevation of 800 metres.The book had detailed descriptions on the plant species diversity，flora，major vegetation types，plants and vegetation on the Water-fluctuation zone，rare and endangered plant species，current status of plant species that were submerged after the building of Three Georges Dam and the measures that should be taken to rescue them.Throughout the book，we presented plot data on typical vegetation types，list of plant species below an elevation of 800 metres，and many precious photographs of plant communities that were taken before the building of Three Georges Dam.These historical records are very useful for future studies on the vegetation in this region.
